Occupational is derived from the word occupation; can be refers to as professional or vocational activities that people engage in to earn a living and better their society. Health on the other hand according to World Health Organization (WHO) is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.”
So we can now thematically says Occupational health is the promoting and maintaining the physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations. Occupational health deals with some basic elements in occupation such as the worker, the tools, the process and the work environment; this is basically to ensure proper arrangement of these critical elements in order to maintain and protect the health and well-being of the worker and that of the environment.
In occupational health the worker is very important because every worker has a right to life and this right is threatened when the work environment and the work itself increases risk of unhealthy status which grossly affect work output. Yes! In occupational health, you should not wait for a broken bone or malnourish status before you feel you are not healthy.
Surfing through some network I saw something that interest me written by CEO of Synlab Nigeria Mr. Kenneth Okolie on his handle where he wrote “Navigating a medical business isn’t just about operations and customer services. The heartbeat of any successful venture is rooted in its financial health.”
As a business man cum health practitioner my curiosity was like is he talking about the state of the business financial situations; income and expenses or the workers financial situations? Every business depends on the offer (services); worker.
…will continue next time but don’t forget to take occupational health serious!
